FOLEY — After the Foley Lions defeated Fairhope in the second game of the final regular season area series Coach Dendy Messick's club continued to pushed forward defeating East Lawrence High School 3-0 on Monday night.
"We are playing our best baseball here at the end of the season," Messick said. "Our guys have gotten much better and it's a shame the season is about over."
Brian Dabbs got his first start of the season for the Lions and pitched a two-hit shutout against East Lawrence. Dabbs struck out two batters and walked one on the night.
"He did a good job on the mound tonight and the defense behind his was solid," Messick said.
Sophomore Dustin DelaGarza had a strong night for the Lions with two base hits and an RBI in the third inning. Senior outfielder Kevin Kane hit into a fielders choice which scored the second run of the inning for Foley.
Senior Jonathon Linton scored the final run for the Lions.
The teams late surge won't be enough to extend the Lions into the postseason, but Messick said it shows a lot of promise.
"We are starting to do the right things to win ball games," he said. "We picked one up against Fairhope and had a shot to win the final game (which would have won the series). We are coming together and it is a boost for the guys."
Foley faced McAdory on Tuesday, but due to deadline constraints coverage can be found at www.baldwincountynow.com.
The Lions face Oak Mountain at 12:30 p.m. and Russell County at 3 p.m. today in Foley.
