Worshipers at Fairhope's Trinity Presbyterian Church will hear a sermon in verse about the life and fate of the leader of Jesus’ apostles on Sunday, April 22.
In services at 8 and 10 a.m., Dr. Dwyn Mounger, interim pastor, will assume the identity of the aged Simon Peter on the eve of his execution in Rome. Entitled “Peter Finds the Warmth,” the soliloquy will be a flashback to the days when, as a young fisherman, he left his nets to follow his master in good times and bad.
“I wrote this little drama in rhymed iabmic pentameter, so I could more easilty memorize it,” says Mounger, who will wear an alb with a blanket over his shoulders to play the cold-natured Peter.
“I noticed in the gospels and the Acts that Peter often tries to warm himself in various ways. So I picked up on that.”
Harper & Row, San Francisco, has published “Peter Finds the Warmth” as part of its Best Sermons series.
Sunday’s services continue Trinity Presbyterian's celebration of Eastertide. Other events of this season include 10 a.m. confirmation on April 29 and Evening Prayer with the music of J.S. Bach, presented by the Chancel Choir and the Mobile-based Silverwood Quartet, at 7 p.m. on May 20.
Director of Music is Ben Devan and organist is Joe Rambo.
