ROBERTSDALE — The Spanish Fort Toros topped Citronelle 2-1, defeated Hueytown 7-4 then broke for lunch Monday to start the Nike Gulf Coast Classic tournament right at 2-0.

Patrick McGavin got the early win over the CHS Wildcats with seven strike outs and two hits.

Evan Chadwell had the game winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning with the score tied 1-1. Hunter Adams led off the SFHS seventh with a single and advanced on Logan Rogers’ sacrifice and scored on Chadwell’s bat.

Against Hueytown, Aaron Burdick went nine innings to get the win over the Golden Gophers.

The Toros had to come from behind in the seventh to tie HHS and took it to extra innings.

Trailing by two, Rogers singled, Ryan Day singled. Jay Myrick brought home Rogers and Chadwell drove in Day for the 4-4 tie.

In the ninth, the Toros took a three-run lead and held on for the win. Dustin Smitherman had an RBI to score Myrick.

Hueytown then fell to Robertsdale in another nine-inning game that had 10 hits by both sides. RHS’ Stevie Byrd got the start for the Golden Bears and went eight innings.

Tyler Munn finished the work on the mound for RHS and not only got the win, but drove in the game-winning run as well.

The Bears fell behind the Golden Gophers 3-2 to start the seventh.

But with two outs Logan Ramage doubled then scored on another double by teammate Travis Waddle to tie it at 3-3.

In the ninth, Hueytown scored two for the lead. But Owen Williams stepped up for the Bears and singled home Ramage for the 5-5 tie.

Then Munn, batting in the pitcher’s spot hit a deep sac fly to right to bring home Daniel Cooper from third and the 6-5 win.
