How you can help Parlor Doughnuts Gulf Shores create its local flavor

Posted

When you think of the Alabama Gulf Coast, what comes to mind? How can you describe that with a flavor?

The newly opened Parlor Doughnuts Gulf Shores is looking to the community to help come up with two local flavor doughnuts and locally themed names for the two unique-to-Gulf-Shores menu items.

Gulf Coast Media sat down with local owner Michael Bush, regional manager Kimberly Pemberton and general manager Kata Kuch in April. During the interview, the team mentioned the local doughnuts.

Each Parlor Doughnuts franchise creates two unique flavors that are a tribute to the shop’s local community and features flavors inspired by local landmarks, culture or traditions. Bush, Pemberton and Kuch are hoping the community will give them some ideas on what the Gulf Shores flavors should be.

Kuch has even taken to local Facebook groups to ask for suggestions. In the “What’s Happening Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Locals,” group she posted:

“Most stores do a flavor that represents their city. For example, Pensacola offers the Blue Angel Local Doughnut and the Bushwhacker Local Doughnut. Someone had mentioned a Key Lime Pie flavor, but I wanted to get your suggestions.”

What comes to your mind? Email melanie@gulfcoastmedia.com with your ideas, and we will share them with the Parlor Doughnuts team (they told us to use my email). Kuch has been collecting promising ideas and told Gulf Coast Media she plans to have a poll once they have received enough good suggestions.

Here is a helpful tip: look at their website for current doughnut flavors offered, as flavors cannot be duplicated. Kuch said there have been several suggestions for orange or satsuma, but they already have a creamy orange flavor with their Dreamsicle doughnut.

Kuch said business has been good, and the new extended hours are drawing in evening customers. Yes, they are open until 10 p.m., so if you are a late-night person over an early morning person, you can still get your Parlor Doughnuts fix all day long.
