Throw on your loudest Hawaiian shirt and slip on your flip flops. One of Pleasure Island’s most popular entertainers, Brent Burns, is back for the 2007 Gulf Shores Outdoors & In free concert series.

Thursday, June 21, Burns will bring his special style of music to the Erie Meyer Civic Center, 1930 W. Second Street in Gulf Shores. Doors will open at 6:30 for the 7 p.m. musical event.

Load up the car and enjoy a couple hours of music guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Born in Seminole, Okla., Burns moved to Phoenix when he was 10 years old. He began his musical career as a teenager in rock ‘n’ roll bands while attending high school and community college several years before relocating to Gulf Shores.

Burns wrote “Snowbird Season,” among many other songs, including the 1970s top 40 hit “Cheaper Crude or No More Food.”

His impressive CD sales and songwriting continue to make him a highly sought after independent artist and performer. His performance schedule includes over 200 dates a year at concerts, festivals and clubs, where he often includes one of his favorite tunes, “Champagne in a Paper Cup.”

A Vietnam veteran, Burns is proud to have been the first entertainer to sing for American troops overseas after the tragedy of 9/11.

Besides his busy performance schedule, he continues to perform at benefits around the world, notably for National Underwater Marine Agency (NUMA) of Australia, the Phoenix Suns Night Hoops Program, Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo and the American Cancer Society.

He has opened for the Kingston Trio in a concert benefiting the Upward Foundation for physically and mentally challenged children in Phoenix and Camelot, an equine therapy center in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The most enduring of Burns’ charitable causes is Habitat for Humanity, where proceeds from his CD “Perpetual Vacation” have provided funding for more than one house. He wrote “Build Them a House,” a tribute to the great work Habitat does all across the nation and in our community. The song can be downloaded at the Web site, www.brentburns.com.

Portions of the proceeds from Burns’ subsequent CDs are also donated to this worthy cause.

The CD “Margarita Smile” includes some great new original songs including, “Parrothead Rendezvous,” “Trailer Park Sexy” and “Hit the Beach.”

Burns’ latest CD “Ragtops and Flip Flops” is now available. Among songs sure to strike a chord are “Pain at the Pump” and “Stuff Like That.”

As always, his tongue is planted firmly in his cheek, and his feet are likewise in the sand.

The simple observations of life as he sees it will have listeners nodding their heads, as well as tapping their feet.

Bring your friends, family and your sense of humor. Don’t miss this great night of entertainment fun.

The concert is presented by the city of Gulf Shores Special Events & Programs Division.
