FOLEY — The Lions’ and Lady Lions’ took their share of victories April 12 in the Baldwin County Track and Field championships at Gulf Shores Sports Complex and winning county championships.

Foley coach D.D. Andersen was happy with the results, “We had a fantastic meet. Both the boys and girls teams are county champions. Julio (Jones) won the long jump, triple jump, high jump, and 100m and was awarded Athlete of the Meet. Shakeria Williams won the long jump, 100m, 200m, and anchored the 4x100m team to a first place finish and she won Athlete of the Meet,” Andersen said. “We had a lot of great performances. We are really excited.”

In the boys team events Foley’s 132 topped the Daphne Trojans second-place 123 and Spanish Fort’s Toros third-place total of 112.

The Lions’ Jones was named the 2007 outstanding male athlete with Lady Lion Williams named as the most outstanding female athlete.

The Lady Lions ran away with the girls first-place trophy, outscoring the second-place Fairhope Lady Pirates 160-138 and third-place Lady Spanish Fort’s 69.

Fairhope coach Tim Yahr said experience was a factor for the FHS boys this year while the Lady Pirates are very young with no seniors this year.

“In 2006, at the state track meet, Dwayne, Ross, and Cornelius competed in the 4x800; Ross competed in the 3200; Josh in the 200; and Josh, Dwayne, and Cornelius competed in the 4x400 and added that they finished well in the Baldwin County Championships as well and hope to translate that success into another good section meet and then on to state.

"Coach Trimew and I are very excited about the hard work the track and field athletes at Fairhope High have put in this year. All those who competed at county today did a great job. The girls did a great job of placing 2nd — only 22 points behind the winner Foley — and they did it without any seniors. We are looking forward to the section meet at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School April 27 and 28.”
