Fairhope Police Department opens applications for Fall 2024 Citizens Academy

Posted

The Fairhope Police Department is now accepting applications for its Fall 2024 Citizens Academy, offering residents an exclusive opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of law enforcement operations.

The six-week program will take place on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., beginning on September 17 and running through October 22.

Participants will experience a ride-along with an officer and have the chance to test their skills on a virtual firearms training system designed for de-escalation techniques. This immersive program aims to provide citizens with a unique perspective on the daily challenges and responsibilities of police work.

Police Citizen Academies play a crucial role in fostering transparency, trust and collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. These programs offer civilians a firsthand look into the daily operations, challenges and decision-making processes of police departments. By providing participants with insights into police procedures, training and protocols, Citizen Academies aim to demystify law enforcement practices and promote better understanding and communication between officers and the public.

Additionally, these academies offer an opportunity for officers to engage directly with community members, address concerns and build meaningful relationships, ultimately contributing to safer and more cohesive neighborhoods.

Applications are open until July 31, with the selection committee announcing the 30 chosen participants in August. Interested individuals can apply online at www.fairhopeal.gov/departments/first-responders/police/citizen-police-academy-application.

Don't miss your chance to engage with and learn from local law enforcement through this highly anticipated program. Apply today and take the first step towards understanding and supporting your community's police force.
