Girl Scouts of Alabama announce new ways to join

Posted

Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama (GSNCA) and Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama (GSSA) are joining forces to offer exciting new opportunities for girls throughout Alabama to experience the benefits of Girl Scouting. These councils have announced the introduction of the Girl Scout Experience Passes, which will allow families to customize their Girl Scout journey by selecting from a variety of programs tailored to their interests.

The new passes offer an alternative to the traditional Girl Scout Troop experience, giving girls the chance to engage in specialized activities while still enjoying the camaraderie and skill-building that Girl Scouting is known for. Whether they join with their troop, attend events solo or participate with family, girls will have access to a wide array of events across the state. Each program is led by trained staff or community partners dedicated to creating safe, fun and enriching experiences.

Among the most anticipated additions are the Girl Scout Squads. These groups, led by passionate adults, allow girls to dive deeply into their personal interests alongside others who share their passions. From science to the arts to equestrianism, the Squads provide year-round opportunities for girls to explore and grow in their areas of interest.

"The two councils in Alabama joining together to develop a positive, consistent Girl Scout experience will enhance our girl and adult membership recruitment," said Karen Peterlin, Chief Executive Officer of GSNCA

GSNCA is launching several Squad options, including:

The Innovator Squad – Adventures in STEM: Girls will conduct hands-on science experiments and explore topics such as geology, archaeology, chemistry and robotics.

The Creator Squad – Adventures in the Arts: This Squad offers a creative outlet for girls to engage with various art mediums, create comic strips and learn about content creation.

The Horse Squad – Adventures in Equestrianism: Designed for horse enthusiasts, this Squad teaches girls about horse care and horseback riding, with no prior experience required.

Additional Girl Scout Squads will be announced by GSSA in the coming months, expanding the range of interests girls can explore.

Despite these new avenues, the traditional Girl Scout Troop remains at the heart of the organization's mission. Since 1912, Girl Scouting has built girls of courage, confidence and character through troop-based activities. Troops are supported by dedicated volunteers who guide girls in planning activities, participating in events and earning from over 300 badges. The troop experience fosters lifelong friendships and memories, all while helping girls reach their full potential.

"Girl Scouts taps into the power of every girl and challenges them to grow and achieve more," said Chief Executive Officer of GSS Karlyn Edmonds. "In the supportive, all-girl environment that Girl Scouting provides, girls try new things, learn through experience, and take healthy, courageous risks."
