Fairhope, Baldwin County drop-off locations for Helene relief supplies

Posted

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, communities and organizations in Baldwin County are participating in several relief efforts for those affected by the storm.

The Fairhope Police Department, with coordination from the Baldwin County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), announced a new initiative that donates several items, such as food, water and supplies, to survivors of Hurricane Helene. These two, plus other organizations, have set up locations within Baldwin County where people can drop off donations for the relief effort. A list of designated drop off locations in Baldwin County along with their daily service hours can be found below.

“The aftermath of a storm can be incredibly chaotic for a community,” said Sheri Schwartz, who serves as community outreach at the Fairhope Police Department. “They may lack the personnel to receive goods, adequate shelter to protect supplies or a distribution plan. Timing and coordination are crucial.”

Baldwin County first responders, who are no strangers to hurricanes and natural disasters, are doing whatever they can to help those affected.

Organizations that are leading initiatives include local Rotary Clubs, Fairhope United Methodist Church and Trinity Presbyterian Church, along with local emergency services such as Daphne Search and Rescue and Baldwin County 911.

When dropping off items, do not bring clothes. Instead, brings items such as bottled water, ready-to-eat food, diapers, wipes, baby formula, personal hygiene items, hand sanitizer, can openers, cleaning supplies, plastic totes, pet food and bug spray. These items will directly benefit the survivors and those affected.

"The relief efforts following Hurricane Helene are a reminder of the power of collective action," said Jessica Waters, who serves as the public information officer and communications specialist for the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency. "It highlights the strength of communities coming together — whether it's first responders, volunteers or local organizations stepping up to provide aid. It’s also a reminder of the importance of preparedness. While it’s heartbreaking to see the damage, it’s inspiring to witness people mobilizing to offer help, just as we’ve seen in Baldwin County after our own storms."

According to USA Today, Hurricane Helene has resulted in the deaths of over 200 people across six states ranging from Florida and Georgia to North Carolina and Tennessee. With hundreds still unaccounted for, it has already become the second-deadliest hurricane to hit the United States, behind only Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
