Beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 1, Children's of Alabama began enforcing its seasonal visitation policy in an effort to protect patients, staff, visitors and the community from the spread of respiratory illnesses.
The policy will impact in-patient units and remains in effect throughout the respiratory season according to a news release.
Visitors must be at least 13 years old and symptom-free to enter the hospital. Those experiencing symptoms such as fever within the last 24 hours, runny nose, cough, sore throat or recent exposure to individuals with flu-like symptoms are asked to refrain from visiting.
Per the release, while masks are recommended, they are not required unless indicated in certain patient care areas. The hospital encourages all visitors to consider masking as an added layer of protection during respiratory season.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with exceptions made in specific circumstances. Visitors are required to register and wear hospital-issued identification before accessing any area of the facility. Clergy and spiritual care providers may visit at the discretion of the patient and their family.
