ELBERTA, Ala. - Elberta Middle School had a successful Summer Reading Program, the first time EMS had summer series available for students.
A total of 60 students registered for the eight-week program. The program was available to children who were registered at EMS for the 2010-2011 school year. Students took trips to Cobb Movie Theatre each week to see the free movies. Students also visited the Foley Public Library to take part in its “One World, Many Stories” Summer Reading Series. The Book Mobile traveled to EMS, giving participants an added amount of books to choose from. There were three Wiis set up for free play, and a trip or two to Foley Park.
On the last day of the program students took a trip to Papa Murphy’s Take-and-Bake Pizza. They saw a batch of cookie dough as it was prepared and made their own individual pizza. Every student who read ten books during the summer was rewarded with a tub of free cookie dough.
This program did so well, we hope to offer it for many more years to come. The students and teachers, Mrs. Dunlavy, Mrs. Giles, and Mrs. Lipscomb, had so much fun taking advantage of the fun things our area offers!
