After the dust settled on cross country sectional meets, five athletes were crowned individual champions, 32 more runners recorded top-10 finishes and a total of 16 teams qualified an entire squad of athletes to their classification’s respective state championship meet scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5.

Individually, Daphne’s Sophie West, Catherine Doyle and Kyle Cooper from Bayside Academy as well as Caden Phillippi and Allie McTaggart from Bayshore Christian were crowned champions with first-place finishes in their respective races.

In Class 7A, Foley’s boys’ team, Fairhope’s girls’ team and both Daphne teams punched tickets to the state meet. Robertsdale qualified its girls’ team and Elberta qualified its boys’ team on the Class 6A circuit where Spanish Fort had both teams qualify. Both Bayside Academy – which swept the team championships – and Gulf Shores qualified both teams in Class 5A.

Orange Beach’s girls’ team, along with a pair of junior-high male runners that qualified individually, is moving onto the Class 4A state meet alongside both teams from St. Michael Catholic. Bayshore Christian swept the team titles and similarly advanced both teams to the Class 3A state championship.
