Out of the 2,183 runners set to compete in the AHSAA Cross Country State Championship this Saturday, 164 run for teams in Baldwin County, representing 7.51% of the field.

Additionally, just over half of this year’s qualifiers (83 runners) will be making repeat trips after qualifying for last year’s state championship meet.

Bayshore Christian, Spanish Fort and St. Michael Catholic are all sending the full allotment of 20 representatives and Bayside Academy and Daphne are both sending 19 runners to the top meet in the state.

Gulf Shores (15), Fairhope (11) and Elberta (10) are all sending double-digit qualifiers and nine from Foley and Orange Beach, eight from Robertsdale and four from Baldwin County High will represent their respective teams at the last meet of the season.

Bayshore Christian and Bayside Academy both have 13 runners coming back from last year’s state championship-qualifying teams where the Eagles won the Class 1-2A boys’ title and girls’ runner-up, and the Admirals won both Class 4A team titles.

However, both teams were promoted a classification following the AHSAA’s Competitive Balance Factor and will be looking for repeat trophies in Class 3A and 5A, respectively.

St. Michael Catholic had the next most repeat state qualifiers with 12, followed by Spanish Fort (9), Fairhope (8), Foley (6) and Gulf Shores (6).
