DAPHNE – Daphne's Lady Trojan volleyball took a three-game, home-court sweep Tuesday to open the 6A Area 4 road to post-season play.

Daphne topped area opponent Satsuma 25-9, 25-13, 25-12 to go 1-0 early in the area race with a strong front-row attack, good defense and effective passing.

"It all clicked tonight," said DHS head coach Kay Flarity." I just hope we can continue to play consistently."

The Lady Trojans made it three in a row with wins over 6A Area 3 Foley and Robertsdale last week.

The positive play has been encouraging to Flarity, especially since her four-year starting setter and captain Brooke Carpenter went down with a severe ankle strain and may be out another 3-4 weeks.

"We miss her being out there, but everyone has responded well," she said. "Kayla Owens has done a great job filling in at setter. Kayla stepped up and is managing the team real well and Courtney Carter is swinging real well. We're just trying to keep everybody healthy. We don't have a big squad. So, we can't wait to get Brookie back and into the rotation."

For the Lady Gators, coach DeAnna Smith was not happy about the scores, but sees steady improvement in her teams overall effort.

"We just weren't getting the blocks we needed, the swings we needed at the net. I thought our serving was strong. The girls played scrappy, they hustled to the ball. I'm pleased with the effort and their willingness to keep working hard."

Carter led the DHS offense with 10 kills, Cherilyn Ramsey and Deanna Vogler added five and four blocks each for the Lady Trojans.

Satsuma's Courtney Brooks had five kills and 18 digs while Casey Barnett finished with 19 digs for SHS.

Daphne will travel to Baldwin County High for their next area showdown with the Lady Tigers Sept. 10 with varsity set for a 5 p.m., start and JV at 4 p.m..
