The Alabama Crimson Tide softball squad will soon have another Eastern Shore representative on the roster after Victoria Moten, an all-state pitcher from Daphne, announced her verbal commitment on Tuesday.

Coming off a 350-strikeout season as a sophomore, Moten was among the sought-after prospects from the Class of 2025 whose contact period with college coaches opened on Sept. 1.

“So grateful to be given this opportunity. I want to thank all of my coaches and teammates who have helped me get to this point,” Moten wrote on social media. “Huge thank you to Coach Murphy and staff for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. Big shoutout to mom, sister, Coach Jenny, Coach Brooke, Coach Kristian, Coach Lannah, and Coach Amanda for always being there for me and being the best support system I could ask for.”

Moten made her first official visit to the Tuscaloosa campus for the second home football game on Sept. 9. Alabama softball hosted a camp the previous week on Aug. 27 where she also competed.

Moten was recognized by the Alabama Sports Writers Association as a first-team all-state pitcher her sophomore season where she racked up 250 strikeouts before area play started in May. In the South Regional tournament, she racked up 23 strikeouts in 12 innings and also delivered a grand slam at the plate to help the Trojans reach the Class 7A State tournament.

In three games at state, Moten pitched 18.2 innings where opponents registered a .130 batting average with 36 strikeouts and no earned runs. She added a .400 batting average when she was at the plate with a home run, two triples and a double to go along with 5 RBI.

Moten was honored with team awards including Best in the Circle with a .534 earned run average, 350 strikeouts, a .770 WHIP (walks plus hits divided by innings pitched) and a .085 batting average against as well as Most Offensive with 101 runs produced.

She played summer ball with Southern Steal and Alabama Thunderbolt teams before picking up the fall season with the Steal.

Also this fall, Moten was part of Daphne High School history as the Trojans won their inaugural flag football game. Offensively, Moten recorded more than 40 rushing yards on seven carries with two touchdowns each in Daphne’s doubleheader sweep over B.C. Rain (49 rushing yards) and MGM (42 rushing yards).

A member of the Trojan basketball team, Moten also contributed a pair of rebounds during Daphne’s Class 7A Central Region championship game against Foley.

Moten will look to join forces with another Eastern Shore pitcher at Alabama in Fairhope’s Alea Johnson who transferred from LSU after her freshman collegiate season. As a Pirate, Johnson was a four-time all-state honoree and twice was recognized as the ASWA Pitcher of the Year.

With them on the Crimson Tide side, the softball version of the Iron Bowl rivalry against Auburn is set to feature local faces on either side. Orange Beach junior Daigle Wilson announced her pledge to the Tigers last Monday, Sept. 18.

Alabama finished 45-22 overall last season with a 14-10 mark in the Southeastern Conference. The Crimson Tide fell in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament to top-seeded Tennessee who went on to win the bracket. Four Alabama players were honored on All-SEC teams where Montana Fouts and Ally Shipman also garnered College Sports Communicators Softball Academic All-American distinction.
