DAPHNE — An 18-year-old Daphne man accused of stealing school-issued computers was arrested Monday. He could face additional charges after his reported actions shut down the high school.
Daphne High School went into modified lockdown Monday after students reported that Richard Brett Langley, a former student, had made threats toward them. Erring on the side of caution, the district increased security at the school, closely monitoring everyone who entered and exited the campus.
Late last week, police began looking for Langley after recovering six Apple MacBook computers from a man in Grand Bay. He reportedly bought the computers from Langley. The computers, which are the property of the Baldwin County Board of Education, were stolen from students at Daphne and Spanish Fort high schools.
Daphne Police Lt. Jud Beedy said Langley began reaching out to students over the weekend electronically and through third persons. While Langley did not issue any threats face to face, he could still face more charges.
"There's a whole bunch of range of charges it could be anything from terroristic threat to intimidating a witness to harassment. We have to get to the source and find out before that determination is made," Beedy said.
At the time of the computer thefts, Langley was out on bond for an attempted burglary charge in Daphne. He is also wanted by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office for a felony assault charge.
