A $50,000 donation will help kickstart a new Foundation Park project at a historic school property.
The Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation presented the contribution to the City of Fairhope during Fairhope City Council's meeting on Monday, Oct. 13. Foundation Park will be located at the intersection of Twin Beech Road and Section Street on a 1.6-acre lot home to the historic Anna T. Jeanes School property. The project will see the construction of a new public park and splash pad that the group says will provide equitable access to recreational opportunities for all youth in Fairhope.
"We're eager to kickstart Foundation Park," said Rebecca Byrne, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of South Alabama, who presented the check. "This partnership with the City of Fairhope embodies our mission to create lasting impact and improve the quality of life for local residents."
The Community Foundation of South Alabama is a nonprofit that "plays a key role in meeting the needs of an eight-county region through leadership and grants." The organization is currently accepting further donations to help bring the project to life.
"We are excited to partner with the Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation," Fairhope Mayor Sherry Sullivan said. "It will be a great addition to our park system and the south Fairhope community."
