Cameron coming to the Orange Beach Art Center

The Orange Beach Art Center, 26389 Canal Road, presents the latest in its Third Sunday on the Bay Concert Series July 15 at 4 p.m. Diane Cameron will perform.

The USA artist-in-residence to the Republic of Benin, West Africa, Cameron is an incredibly talented artist who is perfectly at home behind a microphone, in a directors chair or acting on stage.

Her illustrious career accomplishments include a gumbo pot of recognitions.

She has performed internationally in Japan and Africa and in our own backyard in the 2003 and 2004 National Shrimp Festivals.

Her additional Gulf Coast appearances include The Beach Club, Kiva Dunes, The Oleander, Gulf State Park, Orange Beach Nautical Nights, Florabama and the Gulf Shores Relay for Life.

This month, she heads to Ghana for the Panafest Festival and then on to Benin for the 2007 Gospel and Roots Concert.

She is a celebrated writer with several published stories and poems.

She has won numerous awards for acting and has been recognized twice with congratulatory resolutions by the Alabama Gov. Bob Riley for her work with children and youth theater.

Diane auditioned for her first theater role and won the part, she was cast in the leading role for the Hilton Head Island, S.C. production as Miss Sherman in the play “FAME” in 1991.

Cameron went on to be featured in “Big River,” “Prelude to a Kiss,” “Merrily We Roll Along” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

She has written over 50 songs from the heart and usually addresses issues that affect women.

She says, “It never fails to happen; when I write a song about my life, I’m singing about someone else’s.”

Her first CD. “This Woman’s Heart,” was released in Japan in 2000 and is still enjoying brisk sales worldwide.

Cameron’s sophomore CD, “The Reconciliation,” a tribute to Africa, was nominated by the KORA organization in South Africa in 2005 along with Will Smith and Mariah Carey.

In October of 2006, she teamed up with South Carolina’s premiere saxophonist Abe White for a holiday CD called “Home for the Holidays.”

Tickets are sold in advance, and they are limited to 26 per person.
