Breeze Airways will suspend operations at Mobile International Airport at the end of January.
The suspension marks a temporary pause as both the airline and the Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) align their priorities with the development of the airport's new terminal, according to a news release. The decision was described as mutual, with both parties emphasizing the opportunities this transition presents for the region.
The new terminal, part of a broader initiative to enhance travel options for Mobile and Baldwin counties, is set to open in 2026. According to MAA, the suspension of Breeze Airways' service will allow for accelerated progress on critical aspects of the project at Mobile Downtown Airport, also known as BFM.
"We are optimistic about the future and the opportunities this transition will create," said Andy Wilson, MAA executive director. "As we continue to make progress with the terminal project, we remain committed to fostering new airline partnerships and expanding travel options for Mobile and Baldwin counties."
Breeze Airways, which has served Mobile since its inaugural flights to the region in April 2024, has expressed interest in returning once the terminal is complete.
MAA highlighted its appreciation for Breeze Airways' partnership and emphasized that the decision highlights the airline's long-term confidence in the Mobile market. The new terminal is expected to enhance the travel experience with state-of-the-art facilities designed to meet the needs of a growing region.
