BJ’s Wholesale Club plans to build in Foley

Construction is scheduled to start this fall on a new wholesale club in Foley.

The Foley Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of a proposal to build a BJ’s Wholesale Club on the South Juniper Street Extension.

Plans approved by the commission call for the building to be located on a 14-acre site about one block east of South McKenzie Street.

The facility would be the second BJ’s in Alabama. The first opened in the Huntsville area in late 2023. The closest BJ’s club to Foley is currently located in Pensacola.

“That is a significant addition to our retail space,” Mayor Ralph Hellmich said. “This will be the first wholesale club in South Baldwin. This is a really significant addition for our citizens to not have to leave Foley.”

The mayor said city officials have been working with developers and BJ’s representatives for about three years.

“We’re glad they decided to come," he said.

Company representatives said construction is expected to start in September or October. The project is expected to take about one year to complete.

When completed, the building will be 106,370 square feet. The club will also include a fueling station and other facilities.

Services provided by BJ’s clubs include groceries, household goods, tires and automotive services, electronics and other items.
