DAPHNE—The Bayside Admirals had their 2007 season come to an abrupt end Friday after posting an excellent 25-6 record.
The Admirals dropped both games of their second-round playoff series doubleheader 6-3 and 8-2 to Houston Academy.
Head coach Doug Leffard expects his young Admiral club with no seniors to return all starters and is looking forward to next year.
The HA Raiders built a 3-0 lead after one-and-a-half innings, but Bayside got on the board in the bottom of the second.
Bayside catcher Sam Christman doubled with one out. Courtesy runner Cade McMurray advanced to third on a passed ball. Brandon Pilot worked a walk off HA starter Watson Downs who later balked while facing Will Sanders to bring the Admirals’ first run home.
The Raiders added another in the fourth and nearly another but Christman caught Jo-El Bennett off third to force a run-down and the tag at the plate for out three.
Max Dearing singled in the Bayside third, made it to third on a steal and a passed ball, but was left on.
Bayside starter Cameron Reehl held the Raiders offense to four batters and the Admirals scored twice in the fourth.
Christman and Pilot walked and Pilot later scored on a fielder’s choice by Paul Moravec after advancing on a passed ball with Will Sanders at bat.
But the Raiders scored again in the sixth and seventh to seal the win.
In the night cap, Bayside was led at the plate by singles from Dearing, Sanders and Keifer Gingles while Dusty Deneefe and Michael Sirmon each had doubles.
But it was not enough as right hander Eric Walters suffered the loss but ended the season with an impressive 7-3 record. Reehl, out most of the season with injuries also finished with a positive record of 3-1.
