Komyati named to second-team, Duke on third team in AGA’s All-State Junior Team

Earlier this month, a pair of local golfers were among the Alabama Golf Association’s All-State Junior Team for 2022. Recent Bayside Academy graduate and Missouri S&T freshman Cole Komyati was named to the second team and Fairhope junior Trip Duke was a third-team selection.

The announcement said that Komyati – fresh off an individual state title that helped the Admirals claim the Class 3A team state championship in the spring – closed his junior golf career in July when he tied for fifth at the Alabama Boys State Junior Championship with a three-round score of 204. That helped him finish ranked No. 10 in the AGA’s state rankings at the end of August.

Duke registered a tie for 12th at the State Junior Championship with 209 strokes and added two T18 finishes as well as a runner-up at the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour Championship in August. He also added wins on the Jimmy Green Tour – at the Reece’s Senior Bowl and the Mobile Metro Junior – to help him jump up to No. 12 in the AGA rankings as of Sept. 9.

The pair both also competed in the 73rd annual Future Masters tournament at the Dothan Country Club June 20 where Duke finished 40th (73-75-70--218) and Komyati registered 72nd (71-75-77--223).

They were among 30 of the top golfers (15 male and female) recognized by the AGA on all-state teams that were based on the Alabama State Junior Golf Rankings System where athletes earned points for competing in different tournaments from Sept. 1, 2021, through Aug. 31.

The AGA announcement said the rankings system awarded points “based on the number of participants in the event combined with the overall strength of the field. These tournaments must also meet additional requirements to be a sanctioned rankings event.”
