Four Baldwin County teams kicked off the AHSAA postseason as champions of their areas and will enter the South Regional Championship as top seeds. Five squads also advanced to the regional round as area runners-up with the next tournament set to begin on Oct. 23 in Montgomery.

Bayshore Christian (Class 2A Area 1), St. Michael (Class 4A Area 1), Spanish Fort (Class 6A Area 2) and Bayside Academy (Class 7A Area 3) won title matches this week where the Eagles secured their third-straight area championship and the Cardinals won their first area crown since 2021.

The Toros are heading toward their 13th-straight regional tournament as an area champion for the 12th time. In their first year in the state’s largest classification, the Admirals collected their first 7A area championship in program history to go along with 28 state titles and 27 other area championships.

Orange Beach (Class 4A Area 1), Elberta (Class 5A Area 1), Gulf Shores (Class 6A Area 2), Daphne (Class 7A Area 2) and Fairhope (Class 7A Area 3) also punched tickets to the South Regional Championship with runner-up finishes in their respective areas.

It will serve as the fifth regional trip in as many varsity seasons for the Makos and the seventh in as many for the Warriors. The Dolphins similarly qualified for their seventh regional tournament in a row and their first in their return to the Class 6A level.

The Pirates punched their regional ticket for the eighth-straight postseason while the Trojans will make their first regional appearance since 2017 when they made the second of back-to-back state semifinal trips.

Teams in Classes 1A through 6A will need to win two matches in the regional bracket to advance to the state tournament where 7A teams can earn a state berth with only one regional victory.

Snook, Central Christian also moving on

In the Alabama Independent School Association, the Snook Christian Eagles won their Round of 16 matchup over Cornerstone Christian on Tuesday to earn a spot in the state seeding tournament on Wednesday. Snook Christian took the No. 4 seed from Region 2 to construct the Class A State Tournament bracket that is scheduled to start against Abbeville, the No. 1 seed from Region 1, on Oct. 21 in Montgomery.

In the Panhandle Christian Conference, the defending champion Central Christian Saints earned the second seed from the West Division with an 8-2 overall record and were set to open the Final 4 State Tournament against the East Division’s second-place team, Gulf Pointe Latin, on Oct. 18 in Pensacola. The Saints enter as PCC champions for the fourth time overall following titles in 2012, 2010 and 2008.
