Central Christian School returned to Robertsdale with its first Panhandle Christian Conference Championship on the volleyball court since 2012. Junior outside hitter Lily Wright was named Tournament MVP.
Needing a win in the fifth set, the Saints recorded a 15-12 victory in the do-or-die frame to take down East Hill Academy 3-2 at Aletheia Christian Academy on Saturday, Oct. 21.
It marks the school’s fourth conference championship on the volleyball court in addition to titles from 2008 and 2010 when Central Christian also claimed national titles in the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) Tournament. With only one graduating senior from this year’s team, the Saints had plans on competing in the national championship next season.
Central Christian finished its 2023 season with a 28-3 overall record. Michael Turner, Saints athletic director, said although the squad didn’t beat the school’s best volleyball record of 35-12, this year’s 90.3% winning percentage quickly made its way to the top of the list.
