Bay Minette proposes Big Mike's Steakhouse, economic development project downtown

Posted

In an effort to support economic development while bringing in news businesses to the rural area of north Baldwin, Bay Minette may soon see that steak is for dinner.

Bay Minette City Council will consider an ordinance that would allocate funding to a development project at North Hoyle Avenue that will "acquire, renovate, improve and equip" property for new businesses and potential economic growth within the area.

One of these new businesses that has been proposed is Big Mike's Steakhouse, an Alabama-based chain that serves a variety of steaks as well as select seafood and other dishes.

Big Mike's Steakhouse already has several locations across Alabama, including one in Orange Beach. If the project is approved, the restaurant's expansion in Baldwin County will be housed in a building located in downtown Bay Minette.

According to a statement and legal advertisement published in Gulf Coast Media, the proposed ordinance is "to promote, encourage and support economic development" within Bay Minette, stating that benefits to the public would include increased tax revenue, employment opportunities and a general increase of the quality of life for the people of Bay Minette.

The legal ad states the ordinance "will authorize the issuance by the City of its Taxable General Obligation Economic Development Warrant, 2024-B (the "Warrant"), in an amount not to exceed $2,500,000."

With the city looking to expand economically, the voices of the people can be heard when they gather to hear more about the proposed ordinance. A public action meeting will be held in Bay Minette City Hall on Dec 2. at 6 p.m.
