Two local teenagers were honored at a recent Bay Minette City Council meeting for their quick actions that helped save a man's life after a boating accident on the Tensaw River.
Mayor Bob Wills and council members presented Meritorious Service Awards and gifts to Hunter Robertson and Devon Pfeffer, recognizing their courage and composure during the August rescue.
On Aug. 16, Robertson and Pfeffer were fishing on the Tensaw River when they noticed a nearby boating accident involving a family of three, including a 2-year-old child. The family had been thrown from their boat, and the father was critically injured after being struck in the leg by the propeller.
The teens rushed to the scene, pulled the man from the water and used a towel and belt to fashion a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. They then helped get the injured man and his family safely to the landing, where first responders took over.
City officials praised the teenagers for their bravery and calm response under pressure, crediting their fast action with preventing a tragedy.
