The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) today, May 24, announced it has awarded over $300,000 in state funding to two municipal airports for improvements, one of which is in Baldwin County.

The Bay Minette Municipal Airport Authority will receive $226,127 for pavement maintenance to the northwest apron of the airport. The local airport authority will provide $75,376 in matching local funds for a total value project of $301,503.

Also, the City of Fort Payne in DeKalb County will receive $106,709 for concrete pavement improvements for taxiways at Isbell Field and will provide $35,570 in matching local funds for a total value project of $142,279.

These grants are made possible through ALDOT’s Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program. Through the program, ALDOT can provide financial assistance and other engineering or technical services to airport owners regarding the acquisition, construction, expansion, maintenance or operation of public airport facilities. ALDOT anticipates the award of approximately $8 million in state funds to Alabama’s various local airports during the 2024 fiscal year.
