Baldwin County Safety Alliance expands collaboration across municipalities

Posted

Safety representatives from Baldwin County’s growing municipalities are now meeting quarterly to share resources, training opportunities and collaborate on community safety initiatives, according to a news release.

The Baldwin County Safety Alliance aims to create a clear line of communication among local utilities, contractors and municipalities through shared experiences, per the release. Organized by Riviera Utilities, the alliance brings together representatives from the City of Fairhope, the City of Foley, Daphne Utilities, North Baldwin Utilities, Gulf Shores Utilities, the City of Robertsdale and the City of Gulf Shores.

The meetings cover annual training requirements, including gas leak recognition, trench safety, confined space hazards, roadside safety and state compliance requirements. The alliance also explores innovative ways to partner with city and county emergency departments, such as fire and police, to streamline crisis response to incidents like active shooter situations, the spread of counterfeit money and challenges tied to community growth, the release said.

Justin Frasier, Riviera Utilities’ Safety and Risk Superintendent, said in the release, "At the end of the day, when we are faced with a natural disaster or emergency, all of us will be working together to rebuild. I want this group to get into the 'meat and potatoes' of safety protocol and processes so we can be prepared for anything."

Frasier added, "There's no reason for us to work in a silo, because no agency can do it alone. We are looking forward to watching this group learn together as we work toward a safer, stronger Baldwin County for everyone."
