Alabama Farmers Federation launches statewide photo contest showcasing agriculture, forestry

Posted

The Alabama Farmers Federation is calling on photographers of all ages to capture the beauty and diversity of the state's agricultural landscape through its Farming Feeds Alabama Photo Contest, which opened for entries last week according to a news release.

The contest, which runs through Sept. 15, encourages photographers to submit original snapshots highlighting Alabama's farming and forestry scenes. Entries must be submitted online at https://alfafarmers.org/PhotoContest/. Mailed entries will not be accepted according to the release.

"A picture is worth a thousand words — especially when the photograph captures Alabama's diverse farm land," said the Federation's publications director Marlee Jackson in the release. "From cattle to catfish and peaches to poultry, Alabama has the perfect backdrop for farmers and members to put their photography skills to the test. We're excited to share winning submissions in the 2025 November Neighbors magazine 50th anniversary commemorative issue."

The contest is divided into two categories: Youth Photographers (17 and under as of Sept. 15) and Adult Photographers (18 and over). Each participant may submit one photo that was taken in Alabama in 2025. Submissions must be original, unpublished and free of embedded text, logos or watermarks. Images should reflect safe farming practices and be high-resolution, unedited for size or clarity, though minor adjustments like color correction and sharpening are permitted.

Photos will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges based on quality, resolution, content, storytelling and alignment with the contest theme. The top three winners in each category will receive prizes. Youth winners will take home Farming Feeds Alabama-branded portable JBL Bluetooth speakers, while adult winners will receive Sweet Grown Alabama gift baskets.

To be eligible, entrants must include their name, age, county, contact information, photo title and a brief description with their submission. Federation staff and their immediate families are not eligible to participate.
