BACK THE BLUE COOKOUT

What: In a show of appreciation for first responders, a "Back the Blue" cookout will be held this Friday at the Baldwin County Coliseum in Robertsdale. All first responders are invited to enjoy a free lunch as a gesture of gratitude for their service. The event is hosted by Senator Greg Albritton, Representative Donna Givens and the Alabama Forestry Association. It offers an opportunity for the community to come together in support of local law enforcement and emergency personnel.

GULF COAST FUNGI FESTIVAL 2024

One of the event's highlights is a Jeep costume contest, where attendees can vote for their favorite decorated vehicle. In addition to the usual trunk-or-treat stations, the Kiwanis Club will set up a "Booo-ktober" station, offering children the chance to select a free book from a wide variety of titles.

HALLOWEEN WIFFLEBALL TOURNAMENT IN BAY MINETTE

What: For sports enthusiasts and Halloween fans, Bay Minette Recreation is hosting a Halloween Wiffleball Tournament. The tournament will feature two divisions — youth (13 and under) and adult (14 and up) — with a fun, spooky twist. Teams are encouraged to wear costumes, though it's not required, and each team must include at least one female player. The tournament is set to be a lively event, with teams of 4 to 7 players competing for the top spot. The entry fee is $100 per team, and sign-ups are available through the Bay Minette website.

BLOOD DRIVE HOSTED BY OUR LADY OF THE GULF CATHOLIC CHURCH

What: Residents of Gulf Shores have a meaningful way to give back to their community by participating in a blood drive hosted by Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church and the Philip Lambert Knights of Columbus Chapter. Participants must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more and provide a photo ID. Sixteen-year-olds will need written parental consent. In addition to contributing to the local blood supply, donors will receive a free cholesterol screening and a recognition item as a token of appreciation.

When: Sunday, Oct. 20, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

BALDWIN COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY FALL MEETING

What: The Baldwin County Historical Society (BCHS) will host its fourth quarter fall meeting this weekend at the historic Montgomery Hill Baptist Church in Stockton. Local history expert and Fort Mims Restoration Association President Claudia Campbell will speak about the rich history of Montgomery Hill Baptist Church and the Tensaw community. Founded in 1840, the church is the oldest working church in Baldwin County and has held continuous services for over 170 years. The church's Greek Revival-style architecture, complete with wooden pegs and square nails, and its historic cemetery, which includes graves of veterans from multiple wars, will also be explored. BCHS meetings are open to the public, and membership is not required. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Baldwin County's past and its importance to the community's present.

When: Sunday, Oct. 20, refreshments at 2 p.m., meeting at 2:30 p.m.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS AT PEACE COMMUNITY CHURCH

What: Animal lovers in Baldwin County are invited to bring their pets to the Blessing of the Animals event at Peace Community Church in Gulf Shores. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and their beloved animals for this special occasion. In addition to the blessing, there will be live music by The Chaperones, featuring Lisa Christian and Lynn Coffman. The church will also collect dog and cat food donations to support local animal shelters. Pet owners are welcome to contribute food to help animals in need.
