Andrew Finn Magill, acclaimed violinist of 20 years, and Cesar Garabini, a 7-string Brazilian guitarist merge a touch of jazz with Brazilian passion at the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship with a concert on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 2pm.
For twenty years violinist/fiddler and composer Andrew Finn Magill has been pursuing parallel careers in traditional Irish music, Brazilian choro, jazz and American fiddle, the result of many years living abroad and a childhood growing up at The Swannanoa Gathering in Asheville, North Carolina. He now takes his folk background and his exploration of Brazilian music to create “uncharted territory for both the violin and Brazilian music.”(Bandsintown)
Andrew has performed with top-notch musicians from grammy-nominees Trio Brasileiro to Rising Appalachia. He has been featured on NPR, MTV, Avianca in-flight entertainment, is a Fulbright Fellow, 2019 North Carolina Arts Council Grant recipient for jazz composition and has over a million Spotify streams.
Joining Andrew for this unique concert is Cesar Garabini, an Italian-Brazilian, 7-string guitarist who specializes in Choro, the predecessor to the well-known Brazilian music styles Samba and Bossa Nova. Choro began in the 1890s as a mix of European classical and folk with African rhythms. Its popularity began in the 1900s and continues to present day. In 2009 Cesar started putting together Samba, Bossa Nova and Chorinho bands, performing in Florence and other regions of Italy. In 2011 he moved to New York City to expand his musical experiences.
Cesar has performed for Jazz at Lincoln Center, Jazz Standard, Birdland, Columbia University, the Museum of Modern Art, with a monthly residence at Barbés. He has been featured on NPR, NBC and Global.
“It’s nice to see fresh, young musicians carrying on the traditions of Brazilian music. Finn Magill displays a love and authenticity that can fool you into thinking he is from Brazil. His style is playful and light, yet soulful and passionate. Congratulations!” - Airto Moreira (Miles Davis, Weather Report, Chick Corea)
