An injured adult loggerhead sea turtle was rescued, rehabilitated and released back into the Gulf in a coordinated effort between the Share the Beach organization and the City of Gulf Shores.

According to a statement from the city, the turtle was spotted approximately a month ago near the Sea-n-Suds restaurant in Gulf Shores.

"The turtle was hooked about a month ago, and fortunately through the dedication education efforts of Share the Beach, someone knew to call and report her," the statement said. "X-rays showed that the turtle had not only one hook, but four more hooks down her throat."

According to the release, the turtle was quickly transported to The Gulfarium in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and underwent full rehabilitation. The turtle was released back into the water on Tuesday morning at the Wrecking Ball beach access in Gulf Shores on Oct. 24.

"We are so thankful for organizations like Share the Beach, who continue to make such a huge impact in protecting our sea turtle population," the statement read.
