This week in Ms. Jackson’s kindergarten class the students are learning about their five senses. They will be making gingerbread-man cookies in order to explore all of the five senses. The students will use this experience to learn how to compose a descriptive writing paper.
They are also getting excited about their trip to the ballet to see “The Nutcracker.”
Mrs. McGinty’s kindergarten class cooked their own wonderful Thanksgiving feast last week and were such great eaters! Before they sat at their long table, with Principal Jan Palmer as their special guest, they sang Native American songs that they performed at Mercy Medical for the parents. The children cooked their own Indian stew, sweet potatoes, cornbread muffins, pumpkin bread and cranberry salad. They also ate turkey.
Mrs. D. Smith’s and Ms. V. Smith’s classes are concentrating on their five senses. They look forward to seeing, feeling, hearing, tasting and smelling things of the holiday season.
Mrs. Clayton’s class will begin learning how to read words with the long vowel sounds. They are learning the rules through poems, shared reading and many other reading activities. The class will start a unit on geometry and fractions.
After a great Thanksgiving holiday, Mrs. Csakvary’s class is moving ahead with reading-fluency practice and long vowels. The class is looking forward to learning about holidays around the world.
In Ms. Phillips’ class first-graders had a great Thanksgiving break. They are all refreshed and ready to learn about long vowel sounds, fractions and motion.
This week in Mrs. Riel’s first-grade class, the students were reading the story, “Snakes.”
They are learning about long vowels. They are also finishing their addition unit in math. Students are also finishing a weather unit in science.
Congratulations to our Shining Star this week, Zoe Laughlin.
Also, congratulations to our Principal’s Pick for November for showing good citizenship qualities. The students are Austin Ketcham and Ciana Lyons. Keep up the good work.
Parker Martin is leading the class in AR points so far this year.
Mrs. Blackmon’s third-grade class is getting excited about Christmas. They will be performing Christmas carols at the PTA program on Monday, Dec. 3. They look forward to celebrating Christmas Around the World as the holidays approach.
Third-graders in Mrs. Dickson’s class are working on multiplication and getting ready for their upcoming field trip.
Mrs. Megginson’s class wants to congratulate her daughter, Lauren, on the birth of her daughter on Thanksgiving Day! Now that’s something to be thankful for!
Mrs. Nolfe’s third-grade Project Jubilee class is starting a new unit on optical illusions and light called “Now You See It…” The students have already learned background information on M.C. Escher and have created their own tessellations as part of this unit. They also visited the Escher exhibit in Mobile.
Now they will turn their attention to optical illusions, how they work and how to create their own.
The students are also working on a Christmas service learning project. They are collecting items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair ties, barrettes and lip gloss for a girl’s orphanage in Mexico. They will then put these items in a stocking and send the stockings with a local family who visits this orphanage at Christmas.
