First-graders in Mrs. Riel’s class are learning short vowels and inflected ending –s and –ing.

Library classes are learning how to take care of books from a talking book, “Charlie Chapters.”

Students now know not to read with sticky hands, not to leave books outside, and to keep books away from pets and babies.

“What! Cried Granny” is a favorite of all DES students. Mrs. Tindell is reading this comical story about a boy spending the night with his grandmother for the first time.

The annual Barnes and Noble book fair will be held in the library Oct. 20-24.

The DES library will be hosting a book/video drive. Please bring gently used books or videos to the library during the month of October.

Mrs. Nolfe’s third-grade Project Jubilee students are continuing to study the Greek gods and goddesses.

This week the students are exploring the family history and symbols that represent their Greek god or goddess.  They are also comparing themselves to their Greek counterparts, examining their favorable and not-so-favorable character traits.

Mrs. Nolfe would like to remind parents and the community that our school collects used cell phones and printer cartridges.

These items are recycled and the money received from recycling goes to school improvement projects.
