Intrusive Surveillance Detection is offering services free to senior citizens and single mothers of Bay Minette.
It’s a company dedicated to securing the homes and businesses of citizens who might not know how to do it themselves, and those who can’t.
“Senior citizens and single mothers are the most vulnerable,” according to Regina Taylor, former Bay Minette City Council member and founder of ISD. “A lot of predators stake them out.”
“If a young husband is with his family, he’s pretty much the security guard and everybody feels safer.”
But there are many small aspects of security most don't know about, according to Taylor.
The Certified Protection Professional shows her customers what types of locks to use and how to properly use them — like whether or not the locks are deep enough in the door to actually lock. She advises them on how to organize their valuables as well and much more.
“People don’t do stuff that’s so simple and would certainly help them feel safer,” she said.
Bay Minette attorney A.J. Cooper recently used her services for his office and home.
“She did an excellent job,” he said. “I recommend her all the time.”
Everyone in his home and office has felt “1000 percent safer” since Taylor tightened up his security, according to Cooper.
There has been one aspect of security Taylor found surprising since she started the company in 2003.
“You would not believe how many listening devices I've found everywhere,” she said.
She said finding one in her home prompted her to start the business.
“I was just a regular, old housewife until something happened that changed my whole outlook on security,” she said. “Somebody had bugged my home.”
Although it should never be taken lightly, Taylor attributes the abundance of listening devices to “pure curiosity.”
“Most times, people don’t have a reason to do it. They just want to know how that family lives,” she said.
Due to exponentially enhancing technology, Taylor says it’s getting easier to plant these devices, but she examines her clients’ establishments and thwarts the unwanted listeners.
