FOLEY, Ala. — Vulcan has announced the multimillion-dollar expansion of its aluminum mill, located on the Vulcan Campus in Foley. The project, which will develop in several phases over the next four years, is scheduled to be complete by April 2016, and costs an estimated $17 - $20 million. Vulcan has said the expansion is greatly needed in order to meet growing demand and prepare for the promising future of the aluminum industry. Vulcan plans to add a state-of-the-art structure to its campus that will be approximately 14,000 sqare feet. Several key pieces of equipment will also be purchased in order to fulfill the increased demand including, new furnaces, a new cooling tower and multiple upgrades to existing machinery. This will allow the mill to go from producing 50 million pounds of aluminum per year, to 100 million pounds. It is also anticipated that the acquisition of new equipment will give Vulcan the capability to produce different alloys of aluminum other than their standard, 5052. New hiring will occur over the next four years to add to ouitsr team of employees. With 20-30 new employees already in place, Vulcan foresees hiring another 20-25 employees with a variety of skills, education and experience. Due to detailed planning and preparation by Vulcan’s Engineering, Maintenance and Compliance (EMC) Department, the expansion is well on its way to being a successful endeavor. With Phase I already in progress, a team of Vulcan engineers is working to ensure safety, quality, technology and efficiency are incorporated into every aspect of the expansion. Vulcan Inc., is an employee-owned company located near the Alabama Gulf Coast in Foley. Its 30-acre campus includes five integrated manufacturing facilities and a technology center.
