SILVERHILL, Ala. — According to an indictment from the Baldwin County Grand Jury, Keisjuan Betts, 19, of Lark Lane, Robertsdale, was indicted on charges of capital murder and arson in the first degree in May. He is being held at the Baldwin County Corrections Center with no bond.
The charges against Betts stem from the alleged robbery and murder of Robert Paul Aitcheson, 51, Aitcheson’s body was found in the early morning of Jan. 28 when his mobile home on Holston St. near Silverhill caught fire.
Also charged in the incident were: Ian Aitcheson, 16, the victim’s son, and Danny O’Neil Weaver, 19, both of Robertsdale. Amber Darlene Jerkins, 18, of Robertsdale was also arrested in the case.
While information was not available about the younger Aitcheson’s status, the other two are also in the BCCC on charges of capital murder and arson in the first degree.
For Weaver, Jerkins, and Betts, the charges could carry the death penalty.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office also arrested Amen Lee Robert Wellock, 17 of Robertsdale and charged him with conspiracy to commit murder for his alleged role in planning the crime.
The charges against Wellock are a “Class A” felony and carry a prison term of 10 to 99 years in prison. On-line jail records do not have any information about his status.
“We believe that Ian Aitcheson and Danny Weaver entered the trailer at around 1 a.m. (Wednesday morning) with the intent to rob and murder,” said Baldwin County Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack at a press conference shortly after the incident.
According to Mack, Ian Aitcheson lived with his father until a few days before the murder. Ian Aitcheson was said to be living on Cardinal Hill Drive in Robertsdale, the place where Aitcheson and Weaver were arrested.
According to information from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, Mack said that it appears the elder Aitcheson was killed by a stab wound to the upper abdomen from a large knife.
Mack said he believed some money was taken from the elder Aitcheson’s home.
According to Mack, the Robertsdale Police Department attempted to stop one of the vehicles involved in the crime, and participated in the recovery of two stolen vehicles and a motorcycle apparently taken from Robert Paul Aitcheson’s place of business, Bob’s Body Shop in Gulf Shores.
