• Faulkner State men’s coach led teams to 855 victories, three state titles and 14 division championships
BAY MINETTE, Ala.—Faulkner State's athletic director and long-time men's basketball coach Jack Robertson announced his retirement after 43 years at the helm of the Sun Chiefs. Robertson stepped down April 29.
Now 70, the Bay Minette native and Baldwin County High alumnus, took over the FSCC program at age 26. He opened his collegiate career with a win over UAB’s freshman and since added 854 more victories.
During that run FSCC won three Alabama Community College Conference state championships and took the runner-up trophy three times, won 14 ACCC Southern Division titles and advanced to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament three times.
Robertson is a member of the Baldwin County High Hall of Fame, the NJCAA Region 22 Hall of Fame and was inducted into the NJCAA Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2010.
His best season was the 1991 Sun Chiefs who won a state record 32 games. FSCC won the state championship and then finished sixth in the nation at the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
