DAPHNE - The BMAC Geckos earned fourth place at the Long Course Tom Lalor Invitational, hosted by the Greater Pensacola Aquatic Club at the University of West Florida Aquatic Center. Six team records were broken at the meet. Fourteen swimmers placed in the top eight at the meet and 11 swimmers qualified for the Southeastern championship meet that will be held in Nashville July 23 to 26.
Katie Cronin (8, Daphne) broke four BMAC records, each set in 2003 by Hannah Legg, including the 50-meter backstroke, 100-meter backstroke, 50- meter breaststroke and 100-meter freestyle. She also had Southeastern Championship qualifying times in six individual events.
Cronin joined Emily Feldvoss (8, Daphne), Hailey Kennett (10, Spanish Fort) and Ansley Hardyman (10, Daphne) on the second-place Girls 10 and Under 200-meter freestyle relay team. Cronin also was the lead-off swimmer on the second-place Girls 10 and Under 200-meter medley relay team with Feldvoss, Helen Legg (10, Fairhope), and Maggie Connick (10, Spanish Fort).
Helen Legg broke the team record, set by Savannah Ekelund in 2004, in the Girls 9-10 50-meter breaststroke.
Kennett placed sixth overall in the Girls 10 and Under division, and Legg placed ninth overall in that division.
Ramsey Shane (11, Fairhope) was the leadoff for the fifth-place 200-meter medley relay with Sophie Feldvoss (11, Daphne), Kate Phelps (11, Loxley), and Tara Suhs (12, Daphne). The sixth-place 200-meter freestyle relay team included Phelps, Shane, Suhs, and Ashlynn Weissgerber (11, Spanish Fort).
The Girls 13-14 400-meter medley relay team placed fifth with Meredith Phillips (13, Daphne), Trista Phelps (13, Loxley), Carrie Beverly (13, Jackson ), and Olivia Hudson (13, Fairhope). The 400-meter freestyle relay team placed sixth with Hudson, Phillips, Phelps, and Hannah Kennett (13, Spanish Fort).
Sarah Williamson (15, Fairhope) tied for third in the Girls 15-16 division. She qualified for the Southeastern Championship with her times in the 200-meter breaststroke and the 100-meter freestyle.
Hannah Legg (15, Fairhope) broke a 12-year-old BMAC team record, set in 1997 by Anji Wall, with her performance in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Stephen Jellenc (13, Montrose) turned in the highest score overall the BMAC swimmers, placing fifth in the Boys 13-14 division. He swam to first in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke and to third in the 400-meter individual medley and 1500-meter freestyle. He also scored points in five other individual events. Tyler Phelps (14, Loxley) placed sixth overall in the Boys 13-14 division.
Phelps and Jellenc were joined by Ben Hodde (14, Fairhope) and Kevin Pollard (14, Fairhope on the 400-meter freestyle relay team that placed third. Jellenc, Phelps, and Hodde joined Dalton Martin (14, Robertsdale) on the 400-meter medley relay team that also placed third. Phelps and Martin had Southeastern Championship qualifying imes in one individual event each.
Jackson Algiers, Christian Barrett , Olivia Hudson, Richard Hudson, Brian Jones, Trista Phelps , and Meredith Phillips also turned in Southeastern Championship qualifying times.
