State denies parole of Loxley woman convicted of manslaughter in 2008

BAY MINETTE, Ala. – Carolyn Huson Middleton will stay behind bars for the 2008 drunk-driving accident that claimed the life of a 20-year-old Robertsdale man, Baldwin County District Attorney Hallie Dixon said following a Tuesday morning parole hearing.

Dixon appeared at the hearing in an effort to fight early release of Middleton, 63, who has served two years of a 10-year sentence she received upon pleading guilty to manslaughter for the April 4, 2008 auto accident that killed Jacob Clemmons, 20, of Robertsdale.

Police said that Middleton, a Loxley resident, had been drinking prior to the accident, and ran a stop sign at the intersection of County Road 68 and Holly Street in Loxley.

“It is a long drive from Bay Minette to Montgomery for a short hearing, but having a district attorney or assistant district attorney at the parole hearing to stand up for the victim makes a big difference,” Dixon said. “That’s why we are making every effort to do so in cases like these. Ms. Middleton’s actions caused the untimely death of an innocent young man, and it is important that she be held accountable for it.”
