Sports Turf Company awarded contract for Orange Beach City Schools athletic facility

Posted

A new athletic era dawns for Orange Beach City Schools as the Makos will be playing on a new turf soon.

Sports Turf Company, a specialist in sports construction and surfacing, has been granted the contract for the athletic facility of Orange Beach City Schools, marking a significant step in bolstering sports infrastructure in Baldwin County. Teaming up with Bear General Contractors, the project will encompass the construction of an eight-lane running track, facilities for various track and field events, an artificial turf stadium field, an indoor practice field and the installation of landscape turf.

Expressing enthusiasm for the venture, President Todd Wiggins of Sports Turf Company affirmed the company's commitment to delivering a cutting-edge athletic facility tailored to the needs of Orange Beach City Schools.

"We are thrilled to provide the Makos with a state-of-the-art athletic facility that meets the high standards of its student-athletes," Wiggins stated. "This facility will boast top-performing athletic surfaces catering to a range of sports, benefitting both middle school and high school students."

Sports Turf Company will oversee the construction of the Makos' artificial turf stadium and practice field, employing an artificial turf system prioritizing safety, durability, and performance. The chosen surface will feature AstroTurf's Rhino Blend, coupled with a Brock shock pad and organic BrockFILL infill. The Rhino Blend combines slit-film and high-micron fibers to offer a blend of durability and aesthetic appeal, while the Brock shock pad and BrockFILL are engineered to enhance safety during surface impacts, with BrockFILL designed to improve traction and reduce artificial turf heat.

Complementing the artificial turf fields will be an eight-lane running track utilizing Rekortan M synthetic track surfacing, which is World Athletics-certified and features a two-layer impermeable system. This system is designed to provide optimal force reduction, stability for predictable footing, and moisture protection.

This is not the first time Sports Turf Comapny has worked on a school in Baldwin County. According to Gulf Coast Media article on Dec. 23, 2023, Sports Turf Company is also working on renovating and resurfacing high school fields in Daphne and Fairhope.
