Spanish Fort senior Colin Spuler, who recently set the program record for career goals, announced his verbal commitment to the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles Tuesday, March 28.
“I am very honored to announce that I have verbally committed to Oral Roberts University to continue my academic and athletic career. Thank you God for guiding me on this amazing journey. I’m so excited for this new season of my life.”
Oral Roberts was the regular-season champion of the Summit League and fell in the semifinals of the championship tournament that was ultimately won by Denver, which claimed its fourth consecutive trophy.
Behind a two-goal effort in a March 14 win over Baldwin County, Spuler recorded his 76th career goal as a four-year starter and helped the Toros down the Tigers 10-0.
Spanish Fort checked in at No. 7 in Class 6A on the March 26 edition of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s coaches’ poll with a 12-3 overall record and a 3-0 mark within Area 2 after two wins over Baldwin County and another over Robertsdale.
The Toros were in action in the Southern Coast Cup this weekend at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex and have a non-area match against Orange Beach scheduled for April 5 at home.
