The SR-161 North Roundabout, located south of Gateway Boulevard (CR-8) in Gulf Shores, is now open to traffic.                   

The roundabout is the final major piece of the SR-161 improvements that include the new SR-161 South Bridge (Waterway Bridge) and the SR-161 North Bridge (near The Wharf).

According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, the roundabout will:

- Give southbound SR-161 traffic access to Roscoe Road and additional access to County Road 4;

- Allow northbound SR-161 motorists to more easily access southbound SR-161 toward SR-180 and Alabama’s beaches;

- Provide another connection between SR-161 and the local road network; and

- Improve traffic flow and give motorists more travel options through the area.
