Daphne residents will see the extension of the Ridgewood sidewalk, an ongoing project.

The first portion, along with several paving projects, was first approved in November 2021. Ridgewood Drive is a road that loops through the Lake Forest neighborhood. Daphne City Council awarded the bid for the project during their Oct. 16 regular city council meeting.

The project includes the removal of specific trees and existing driveways, constructing sidewalks, driveways, crosswalks, a boardwalk and signage. PL Russell LLC was awarded the project in an amount not to exceed $660,500.00.

During the meeting, council also voted to:

  • Authorize Mayor Robin LeJeune to execute an agreement with the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission for redistricting the city's single-member council districts as a result of the 2020 U.S. Decennial Census to ensure that the city remains in compliance;
  • Reappoint Elliot Riser to the Daphne Library Board for a term of four years beginning October 2023 through September 2027;
  •  Approve the Appollo's Mystic Ladies' Parade for Feb. 2, 2024, at 6:45 p.m.;
  • Approve the publication and set public hearings for Nov. 20 for two items: the Carillion Oaks Baldwin LLC. pre-zoning amendment and the Carillion Oaks Baldwin LLC annexation petition. The development is located southwest of the intersection of Sommerset Drive and Alabama Highway 181. Carillion Oaks is a women-only memory care facility, and the project is being constructed next to the Sommerset neighborhood. Residents who would like to speak for or against should attend the public hearing Nov. 20;
  • Propose annual salaries for city council member for the next election cycle at $19,000 for the council president, $16,200 for the vice president and $15,000 for city council members. The salaries would go into effect November 2025. This item will be on the upcoming agenda; and
  • Propose an ordinance to establish the salary of the Daphne mayor elected in the next election cycle. The proposed salary is $125,000 annually and would begin November 2025.
