Baldwin Reality watch party week 6: Survivor has a "clutch your pearls" moment

Posted

It is time to catch up on our Baldwin County reality television stars, so if you are behind, this is your warning to stop reading and watch last week's "Survivor" and "MasterChef Junior."

"Survivor" had a "clutch your pearls moment" for those on Team Jonathan. The shifting to an individual game over Tribes has placed a large bullseye on the physically strong Gulf Shores native.

But while Young had a hard week on "Survivor," Bay Minette's Starla Chapman had another winning week.

"Survivor" week six

Episode six of "Survivor 42" was two hours full of twists and turns. All three Tribes arrived on the beach for a challenge and learned that the Tribes will no longer compete together. Host Jeff Probst was asked if this is the merger and he tells the group it is not, yet. The twelve competitors draw colored rocks out of a bag to determine the two teams that will compete together, and which two competitors will sit out and have their fate determined by the winning team.

For the challenge, the teams must dig a giant round boulder out of the sand and push it through a course and use it to climb up to retrieve two keys that will unlock a 75-piece puzzle. The first team to complete the challenge wins their merge buff, will not have to compete at the first individual immunity challenge, have immunity at the next tribal council, and eat an Applebee's dinner.

The groups go crazy when Probst gives the tantalizing details of the Applebee's dinner that will include appetizers, burgers, dessert and a cocktail. The 12 hungry competitors have gone 12 days with very little food, and all want to win the dinner more than the other advantages.

Gulf Shores' Young is on the orange team with Lydia, Maryann, Hai and Tori. The blue team consists of Mike, Romeo, Omar and Chanelle. Rocksroy and Lindsay must sit out and await their fate.

Young takes the leader role of the orange team and they make quick work of digging out the boulder and making it through the obstacles. Tori is hoisted on top of the boulder twice to retrieve the keys from their high perch. The orange team makes it to the final puzzle phase before the blue team can get through the obstacles. The blue team struggles and pushes through until the end but just can't catch up. The orange team wins immunity.

The orange team must make a crucial decision: choose between Lindsay and Rocksroy to go to exile. Probst let the team know that the competitor chosen to go to exile will have the chance to change the game but does not give more detail. Rocksroy is chosen to go to exile and Lindsay will join the orange team.

The blue team heads back to camp with a small bag of rice while Young and his teammates devour onion rings, chicken wings, cheeseburgers, chocolate brownies and a blue cocktail. Rocksroy is dropped onto an island alone with a pot, rice, flint, machete and an hourglass and mallet.

Probst visits Rocksroy to explain he has the power to turn back time. If he smashes the hourglass, he will earn himself immunity while reversing the results of the previous challenge. The members of the orange team would no longer have immunity, the blue team would be safe and the orange team would have to fight for individual immunity. He makes his choice.

Young, Lydia, Maryann, Hai, Tori and Linsday have full bellies but now must battle each other in a difficult challenge to win the one individual immunity necklace. Tori wins. Gulf Shores native Young knows he is in trouble and the rest of the orange team members must work to gain trust and build alliances before tribal council.

Walking into tribal council it is unclear who would be going home because the dealings, alliances and schemes were being worked until the last moment. The votes reveal that Young, Maryann, Lindsay and Lydia are on the chopping block. Lindsay gets one vote, Young and Maryann each get two votes and Lydia gets five. Probst calls Lydia up and extinguished her torch.

During the entire season, Young has been called Goliath, Thor and the golden boy. He is the most physically strong competitor and is seen as a threat by some and an asset to others. He is the only competitor that has been successfully catching food to share with the hungry, but will that keep him safe? Check back next week to see if Young can form an alliance that will keep him in the game.

"Survivor" season 42 airs on CBS each Wednesday at 7 p.m. CST.

"MasterChef Junior" week five

The "MasterChef Junior" team hosted a baby shower for judge Daphne Oz and 21 other soon-to-be mothers. The 12 remaining contestants are evenly split with six boys and six girls and competed as girls (Team Pink) versus boys (Team Blue).

The teams must cook a full meal and dessert for the baby shower guests. Daphne chooses the protein for each team; Blue Team is asked to cook a chicken dish and the Pink Team is asked to cook a fish dish. They have 60 minutes to complete 22 servings.

The Blue Team leader, Cruz, struggles to keep his team on task and Freddy and A'Dan are not doing a good job of cooking the bone-in chicken. Each time judge Gordon Ramsay checks the chicken it is still pink in the middle. Ramsay pushes Cruz to get his team together and solve the issues.

The Pink Team works well together. Team captain Liya has effective communication with her team but when Judge Aaron Sanchez stops in to check on their salmon dish, he finds the salmon over cooked. Liya gets her team together to discuss the corrections.

As the clock ticks down the teams finish their dishes but the boys continue to struggle with the chicken. The dishes are taken to the baby shower guests who will vote on their favorite. A few of the Pink Team's salmon fillets are a little over cooked and some of the Blue Team's chicken dishes are still pink and inedible. The teams plate their desserts and hope the sweet treats will push the vote in their favor.

The Blue Team's strawberry shortcake is a hit but the Pink Team's rich chocolate brownie and salmon dish wins over the group.
Bay Minette's Starla Chapman and her teammates win and are safe from elimination. Freddy, A'Dan and Cruz are in the bottom three and in danger of going home. In the end, Freddy is sent home to Philadelphia due to his inability to keep up in the kitchen.

Chapman is safe for another week and one step closer to the $100,000 cash prize. Can she continue to stay in the top? Check back next week to see if her culinary skills keep her on the path to the "MasterChef Junior" title.

"MasterChef Junior" season 8 airs on FOX each Thursday at 7 p.m. CST.
