ELBERTA — It’s time once again to start thinking about the holidays. Along with that is the Marine Corp. League’s annual Toys for Tots toy drive.

This year’s drive kicks off Saturday with a Poker Run, which kicks off Saturday morning at American Legion Post 44, located at 6781 Alabama Highway 59 in Gulf Shores.

Registraion for the run is $20 per first rider or a new, unopened toy and $10 or another new toy for an additional rider.

Those toys will then be distributed to those in need within Baldwin County this Christmas.

“We’re going to be distributing our toys through five organizations,” event coordinator Freda Fleming said, naming Ecumenical Ministires, Salvation Army and South Baldwin Catholic Services among them.

According to Fleming, registration will be held 9-10 a.m., followed by the first card draw and three additional stops.

“The last bike will be in at 3:30 p.m. at VFW Post 5658 in Elberta,” she said.

Cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded for the top three hands.

In addition, Saturday’s event will include free food for registered riders (and for sale for others), games, door prizes, raffles and music.
