When the Alabama High School Volleyball Coaches Association announced its all-state teams at the end of the postseason, Orange Beach senior Amelia Edgeworth and Bayside Academy senior Blakeley Robbins were named the players of the year for their respective classifications.
Additionally, the Makos and Admirals were joined by the Spanish Fort Toros and Daphne Trojans in having three athletes each named to all-state teams.
Robbins, a Montevallo commit, was also recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with a spot on the High School All-America third team for her efforts in helping her team to the state semifinals.
Below are the local representatives on AHSVCA All-State teams.
Class 4A All-State – Player of the Year: Amelia Edgeworth
Amelia Edgeworth – Orange Beach: first team
Ensley Keel – Orange Beach: first team
Ava Hodo – Orange Beach: second team
The Orange Beach Makos claimed their second straight Class 4A Area 1 title in as many seasons in the classification.
Class 6A All-State – Player of the Year: Blakeley Robbins
Alexis Belarmino – Spanish Fort: first team
Blakeley Robbins – Bayside Academy: first team
Carlyn McAllister – Spanish Fort: first team
Georgia McInnis – Bayside Academy: first team
Maysie Douglas – Bayside Academy: first team
Reece Varden – Spanish Fort: first team
Both the Bayside Academy Admirals and Spanish Fort Toros fell in the Class 6A state semifinal where their opponents earned victories in rubber matches to own a 2-1 season lead.
Bayside Academy’s national-record state championship streak ended at 21 seasons as the Mountain Brook Spartans went on to win their seventh Blue Map trophy since 2014.
Class 7A All-State
Ella Lomax – Daphne: second team
Charlotte Mekkers – Daphne: honorable mention
Grace Thigpen – Daphne: honorable mention
A trio of sophomore standouts from Daphne were recognized with all-state distinction and will all return next year for Trojan head coach Casey Craig.
