The Orange Beach Police Department will begin golf cart inspections and permit registrations in neighborhoods Jan. 8, 2022.

The Orange Beach City Council approved ordinance No. 2021-1398 during the Nov. 16, regular council meeting. The ordinance requires all golf carts in the city of Orange Beach to have a permit to operate on designated city streets. To obtain a permit, golf carts must pass an inspection. Golf cart owners must hold liability insurance.

Golf carts must have the following equipment and information to be inspected:

- Headlights (no higher than 36")
- Rearview mirror
- Brake lights
- Operable brakes
- Turn signals (front and rear)
- Steering wheel
- Windshield

If one or more of the requirements is not met, the golf cart will fail inspection and no permit will be issued. Anyone driving a golf cart must hold a valid driver's license.

The Orange Beach Golf Cart permit fee is $75 and is valid for three years. The fee will be collected on-site (cash, check or credit card) and two permit decals will be issued to the golf cart owner. The permit decals must be displayed on each side below the front seat.
