Orange Beach may be getting a Sunliner Diner

Posted

A new Sunliner Diner may soon be arriving in Orange Beach.

Lieb Engineering has submitted a site plan for approval to build the diner at 26035 Perdido Beach Boulevard, directly across from the Tide's Best Western.

The proposal will be reviewed during an Orange Beach Planning Commission meeting June 10. Lieb Engineering is acting on behalf of Cotton Bayou Holdings, with Mark Chaffins listed as the registered agent, according to Alabama Secretary of State business records. Chaffins, CEO of Hangout Holdings as per his LinkedIn profile, and Mark Taupeka, a local attorney and business organizer for Cotton Bayou Holdings, are leading the effort.

Currently, there are two other Sunliner Diners: one in Gulf Shores and another in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, both managed by Hangout Hospitality. The company also owns several local businesses, including Surf Style and Trading Co. beach stores and restaurants such as The Gulf, Picnic Beach, Zeke's, Burro Azul and The Hangout. The Gulf also operates in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Additionally, Zislin's group, which is associated with Hangout Hospitality, owns the Gulf Place condo building near The Hangout. Efforts to reach Zislin for comment were unsuccessful.

In addition to the Sunliner Diner proposal, the planning commission will consider other requests:

  • A request to modify the lot line between 29674 and 29688 Bayshore Drive South in the Bear Point neighborhood, zoned for single-family residences.
  • A request to combine two lots near Hideaway Street and Moses Road for Gary and Lindsey Pearce. These lots are located south of Marina Road and west of Tacky Jacks.
