Mardi Gras schedule for Baldwin County parades 2026

Posted

Carnival season is picking up around the Gulf Coast, and you don't have to travel to New Orleans or even across the bay to get in on the festivities.

The first parade in Baldwin County is in just a few days.

It's a common misconception that New Orleans is the home of Mardi Gras. In fact, it's South Alabama that originally paraded through the streets. The Mobile celebration started in 1719 and partied on over to Baldwin County soon after. Today, crowds line both sides of Mobile Bay to participate in this Gulf Coast tradition. Patrons catch Moon Pies, doubloons, cups, beads, stuffed animals and other goodies. Pick your own adventure: Baldwin County's parades and events tend to be more family-friendly, while Mobile has festivities closer to what's offered in New Orleans.

While balls and organization parties usually require invitations from members, krewe and city parades are open to the public.
